Road to Data Science

Data science becomes more popular in these years. Both fresh graduates and experienced professionals are interested in becoming data science specialists. However, there are some misconceptions about the difficulty to land a data science career. In this blog, I'll share what you could prepare to become a data analyst or a data scientist and share my first-hand experience.

1. What I have studied 

I study Mathematics at the university, and my specialization is Computational Big Data Analytics Stream. My specialization includes some mathematical theories behind machine learning algorithms and neural networks. However, learning these is not compulsory even if you want to get a data science job.

If you take a look at the hierarchy of needs in data science, AI, Deep Learning and Machine Learning are at the top of the hierarchy. That means the main focus of a company will not be developing AI or state-of-the-art models. Therefore, learning theories behind machine learning algorithms is beneficial but not mandatory.

Data Science is all about finding insights from data.
